monetizing a blog

If you are reading this article, it is probably because monetizing a blog…..I mean your blog…… is a source of worry to you. You are not alone.

The fact is this: monetizing a blog is one of the biggest challenges faced by majority of bloggers all over the world.

It’s even more frustrating when they read or hear other big bloggers talk about their monthly earnings being in the range of $35,000 to $150,000, while they struggle to earn just around $100 to $200 per month.

So what are these big bloggers doing that they don’t tell you?

How are they able to make so much money from their blog?

How can you also monetize your blog to be able to earn up thousands of dollars in income monthly?

These are the questions I will be answering in this article, so keep reading.

They don’t just rely on Google Adsense.

Google Adsense is the most popular method most bloggers use to monetize their blog and that’s possibly what you are also relying on to monetize your blog.

But let me tell you something:

The big earners in the blogging industry don’t just bank on Google Adsense.

Yes, they use it. But if you are privilege to see their income reports, you will notice that Google Adsense is the least of their blog monetization methods.

I won’t tell you not to use Google Adsense, but like the big earners, don’t rely solely on it for your earnings. There are so many other better and more profitable ways to monetize your blog and I’m going to reveal it to you next.

So what are the ways you can monetize your blog just like the big earners?

In this article, I’m going to mention seven ways you can use to start earning thousands of dollars in revenue from your blog monthly. I have already said something about Google Adsense above, so I’m not going to talk about it again.

So let’s look at the so many other more profitable ways to monetize your blog:

Monetizing A Blog Through Affiliate marketing

This is one of the major sources of revenue for bloggers that earn huge income from their blog.

Affiliate marketing involves helping other people sell their own products and getting a commission from it. You can read about it in more details here.

These big bloggers write educative posts around a particular product they wish to promote and end up recommending the product to you.

Since the readers will find the post informative and already trust the blogger, many of them end up buying the product or service, while the blogger earns a good commission from the sale.

If you are looking to monetize your blog through affiliate marketing, there are many ways you can go about it:

First, you need to research and find affiliate products within your niche.

There are two ways to do this; you either join an affiliate network like ClickBank, JVZoo, Commission Junction, ShareASale, Amazon Associates, Ebay, etc OR you contact the product or service vendor directly if they have their in-house affiliate program.

With your affiliate link ready, you can then write an article around the product or service and subtly recommend the product you are promoting to your readers.

For example, if you are promoting a course that teaches people how to play guitar, you can write a very insightful and engaging post on “how to learn guitar fast”.

In the post, you will write many tips that will help people learn how to play guitar fast and at then end, recommend the guitar course to them.

Your readers will learn something from your post and will be more likely to follow your recommendation and enroll for the course, while you earn your commission.

To be candid, you will make far more money than you can ever make with Adsense if you can put affiliate marketing to good use.

Remember, to promote only products relevant to your blog niche.

Most importantly, be sure to promote only reputable products or services to your readers. If you recommend any product or service and it turns out to be of poor quality, you will lose your reputation with your readers and your income will drop.

Sell your own information product

If you have been writing on a particular niche, you will become an expert in that niche over time.

Since your expertise will be reflected in the quality of post you are putting up on your blog, your readers will begin to trust and respect you.

At this point, if you launch your own information product, your army of readers who already trust you will be willing and ready to buy it, earning you bumper and instant cash.

All you need to do is to get across them in an email, telling them about the product, what it does and what they will benefit from getting it. You can also reference it in many of your blog post so that people who are not already subscribed to your mailing list will get to know about it also.

With the trust your audience already have in you, they will pay to learn more from you…….besides, they have been learning so much for free through your blog post.

Take time and check many of the big bloggers and you will see that the have a product they are selling to their readers.

To effectively maximize this blog monetization method, you should ensure you start building a list of subscribers for your blog from day one. This will not only help you when you want to launch your own product, it will also help you when you start promoting other people’s affiliate product.

So, find a popular problem which your blog readers face, make your research and create a solution to it and sell to them……..they will pay you for it.

This is a strong and effective way for monetizing a blog.

Monetizing a blog through Consulting

This is directly related to the method just described above, but instead of creating and selling the solution as a product to your audience, you sell it as a service.

For instance, if you are an SEO blogger, your readers will be made up of mainly those who are looking to boost their SEO ranking.

You can easily offer SEO services for a considerable amount of dollars. Since your readers already know that you are an expert in SEO based on the posts you’ve been putting up on your blog, they will trust you to offer them a quality service.

Freelance Blogging

If you are the one writing your blog posts, you are most probably a very great writer and other blog owners will be glad to have you guest post or ghost write the contents of their own blog.

Having your own blog and maybe having guest posted in one or two authority blogs, you already have all the social proof you need to have other busy blog owners hire you to write their own contents for them.

So if you can squeeze out time to write for others too, use your own blog as a portfolio and spring board to reach out to other blog owners and pitch to help them to write their blog contents for them.

You can earn between $100 and $500 per blog post depending on who hires you.

Many big bloggers do this and you can also do it to increase the monthly revenue from your blog.

Membership site

If you are known for producing quality and highly informative posts which your audience perceives as very valuable, you can create a premium membership section of your blog where members gets to see even more valuable content from you.

Many of your readers will be willing to pay to become premium members if you can prove to them that they will get even higher value and better solution to their problem by joining.

If you can offer so much value to your free readers, you can easily get them to sign up for the premium membership. In their mind, they will be thinking: “if this guy can offer so much value for free, I wonder what he will offer in the premium section”.

So many bloggers do this and earn steady and recurrent income from this. You can also offer it on your blog if you can.

Paid reviews/direct promotion

Aside getting affiliate links from product or service vendors so you can promote on your blog and get a commission, you can also allow advertisers to pay you directly for placing adverts on your website or for you to review their product.

All you need to do is to work hard to grow your blog so it boasts of high quality contents and high quality traffic.

If you can achieve that, then create a page where you tell potential advertisers what it takes to have you review or advertise their product or service on your blog. Then create a menu link that directs advertisers to that page.

Like I said, you will get advertisers coming to you and begging to have you review and advertise their stuffs on your blog if only you are able to attract quality traffic to your blog and you also have quality content on it.

So how much traffic do you really need to monetize your blog and earn good revenue from it?

What you need to achieve this is good quality traffic to your website. The higher the traffic you get, the higher your potential for making money from it.

Fortunately, there are tools that can help you increase your blog traffic and I have written about them here.

So don’t wait till you start receiving 10,000 visits per month before you begin to monetize your blog; you can start earning good money from the little traffic you are getting if you can apply these methods stated above.

I’d love to read your comments, experience, and suggestions in the comment box below.

  1. I have literally told folks thousands of times that trying to make a solid blogging income through Google Adsense is like trying to juggle 3 full grown elephants while standing on the teeth of a crocodile with its mouth open. Love your message. Add those bigger ticket income streams folks. I have over 10 income streams so money flows in through my Paypal and various other channels each month.
